Briefing

This was the longest project I worked on during my time at ETH. Together with the University of Basel, we developed a new brand identity, including a logo and website, for PHUSE (Planetary Health Education). From the initial idea to the finished prototype, this project kept me busy for an entire year.

Analysis & Research

Initial color and image inspiration.

At the outset, it was important to gain a thorough understanding of the topic of planetary health and to define the target audience. We then created mood boards and analyzed various design options to develop a suitable visual direction for the project.

Logo Variations

A handful of logo ideas.

The first design milestone was the development of the logo. It served as the foundation for the website’s entire visual identity. Together with my fellow student, I designed about 30 different logo variations before we refined the strongest ideas.

Mockup with Logo

Mockup featuring one logo variation.

To present the various logo concepts to the client as realistically as possible, we showcased them in different mockups. This allowed them to better visualize how the logo would look in actual use, for example, on digital media or printed materials.

Under Construction

“Under Construction” website with various color variations.

One of the client's specific requests was to publish an “Under Construction” page as early as possible. This allowed them to communicate right away that the project existed and that work on the new website was actively underway.

Milestones

Ideas for presenting milestones.

To present the milestones, I developed various design options and experimented with different layouts. I particularly enjoyed this part of the project because it allowed me to be creative and try out many ideas.

Final prototype with subpages.

Here you can see the finished prototype. In the end, the logo, colors, typography, and visual style came together to create a cohesive overall look. It’s especially nice to see that the website has since been launched and is now available online.

The experience I would have missed if I didn't do this

The experience I would have missed
if I didn't do this

This project provided me with a lot of valuable experience. In particular, I learned how important perseverance and stamina are for long-term projects. Originally, the project was planned to last about six months, but in the end, it took me a whole year to complete. Looking back, it was exciting to see how initial ideas gradually developed into a complete website. Watching the project grow steadily and eventually go live was a particularly motivating and educational experience for me.
